Ahora creo que ya se va a entender Seekr, esta pequeña aplicación que hice para no tener que cambiar continuamente el motor de búsqueda en Firefox o evitar tener que entrar a las webs para después buscar en ellas (sí, por vago, como dice Sergio Gil).

Hablando con unos amigos vi que la primera impresión es que parece un buscador alternativo a Google o Yahoo, no una funcionalidad que los complementa. De hecho, si en la búsqueda no aparece la barra “/” se redirige a Google y es como si hubiéramos buscado allí. Puede que se entienda mejor partiendo de que es una funcionalidad que se le añade al buscador de Google, de ahí el logo provisional Google mejorado (que supongo que cambiaré por Seekr cuando sepa hacer un logo en condiciones o alguien me ayude).

Como comenté ayer, también se puede añadir el motor de búsqueda al navegador (Firefox, Internet Explorer, …) y a iGoogle, Google Desktop o a cualquier otra web mediante el Google Gadget.

Como acabo de comentar en el post anterior (en Inglés), he escrito una pequeña aplicación para facilitarme la vida y no tener que entrar en la página de inicio de cada web. No se si existirá algo similar, pero como no cuesta casi nada programarlo (ya publicaré… ver el código), no me he detenido a buscar.

Por ejemplo, con Seekr para buscar en la RAE sólo hay que escribir seekr.es/rae/palabra

Las webs con nombres largos y conocidos suelen poder utilizarse también con las iniciales como por ejemplo w para la Wikipedia, g para Google o wr para Wordreference.

post en Español (pero no igual)

I was writing a script to backup subtitles from dotsub.com and I realized that the task of seeking in webs is repetitive and non standard. Moreover, I had thought several times that I would like to execute scripts from the web. As I am using/learning Ruby (and I’m not going to use Rails for that), I googled and found Camping. It’s a microframework and it’s very easy to use even for me ;)

I tried the Camping microframework writing the little app Seekr (less than 40 lines with comments) to rewrite searches. It presents a standard way to seek so it’s going to simplify my life a bit. For example, when I want to look for a word in the Spanish dictionary of the RAE (Real Academia Española), I had to go to the rae.es and then seek my word. Now I only need to go to seekr.es/rae/perro. And the same to the Wikipedia, Technorati, Google Maps, Mininova for ordered by seed torrents, Lastfm for similiar artists and so on.
